Streebog Competition

The Russian Technical Committee for Standardization “Cryptography and Security Mechanisms” (TC 26) with the organizational and financial support of Infotecs JSC plans to hold open competitions on research papers on analysis of cryptographic properties of the Russian cryptographic algorithms.

The main goal of the competitions is to encourage scientific community to cryptanalyze Russian cryptographic algorithms.

For the competitions, original research papers in Russian or in English are eligible. Every submission will be double-blind peer reviewed.

According to the results completions results, the winners will be paid a monetary award. The winners could also be provided with references to the “Mathematical Issues of Cryptography” journal for the papers publication.

Tender for research works on analysis of cryptographic qualities of the hash function
defined in the national standard GOST R 34.11-2012

In 2013 the Russian Technical Committee for Standardization “Cryptography and Security Mechanisms” (TC 26) is planning to hold, with the organizational and financial support of JSC Infotecs, an open tender for research works on analysis of cryptographic qualities of the hash function defined in the national standard GOST R 34.11-2012 “Information technology. Cryptographic data security. Hash-function.”

The objective of the tender is to draw the attention of the Russian and global academic community to research on the evaluation of the cryptographic strength of Russian cryptographic algorithms.

The committee shall/may accept for participation original finished works in Russian or in English. Experts will assess the works by way of a blind review.

Based on the results of the tender, authors of the best works shall be awarded cash prizes — two awards for first place and two awards for second place. The committee wil give winners the right to publish their works in the journal “Mathematical Aspects of Cryptography,” included in the Higher Attestation Commission's list.

Announced the Winners of the First Stage STREEBOG Competition

Results of the first stage of Open Research Papers Competition dedicated to analysis of cryptographic properties of the hash-function GOST R 34.11-2012, named as Streebog, were resumed on April, 30th. Original completed research papers in the Russian or English languages that have not been previously published in peer-reviewed journals/magazines had the right to participate at the Competition.

According to the results of individual expert assessment, the Competition Committee selected the 3 winners of the first stage of the Competition from the following researchers:

    • Riham AlTawy, Amr M. Youssef (Canada Concordia University)
    • Grigory Sedov (Lomonosov Moscow State University)
    • Jian Guo, Jeremy Jean, Lei Wang, Thomas Peyrin (Nanyang Technological University, Singapore)

Every submission was double-blind peer reviewed at least by two experts. The Competition Committee adopted resolutions by a simple majority vote. The Competition Committee composed of acknowledged experts in the area of cryptography and mathematics: doctors and candidates of technical, physical and mathematical sciences, academic teaching staff of the leading establishments of higher education on information security, and experts in cryptography from scientific and technical organizations.

Job-winner of the first stage will be paid a monetary award of RUB 70,000 (seventy thousand Russian roubles or an equivalent). Intellectual property and other rights to the results of research submitted to the Competition are reserved to their authors or other respective owners.
The second stage of the Streebog competition begins on May, 1st. For the second stage of the Competition are eligible the papers participated in the first stage of the Competition, which have already been published or accepted for publication by the date of submission or any other papers published by the date of submission. Applications will be accepted until November 30, 2014.
